‘NES Remix 2’ comes with a couple of bonuses as well. They are definitely worth playing over again and will leave you wanting more. One has you controlling the floaty Princess from SMB2 in a SMB3 stage, and another controlling Link in a SMB stage while a wall of Boos close in on you. Of course, the remixed levels are the highlight of the package, which are very cleverly designed. Like before it’s not difficult to nab three-star rankings, and rainbow rankings still require near perfection. Most challenges take a minute or so to complete, and do feel repetitive from the first game. I even found joy playing the polarizing Zelda II. Mario gets a lot of love with challenges like finding the warp zones, defeating bosses, and making it to the end of levels as fast as possible. Punch-Out!! was one I was looking forward to, but its portion is over in no time. With fewer classics showcased, this means fewer regular challenges to complete. The Toad-controlling, color-matching puzzler Wario’s Woods was the only one where I had trouble with the controls and wondering what the heck I was doing since I had never played it before. Unlike the first version where multiple games felt weak like Golf and Clu Clu Land, the great majority in the sequel are a treat to play. 3, Ice Hockey, Kirby’s Adventure, Metroid, NES Open Tournament Golf, Wario’s Woods, and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. Mario, Kid Icarus, Punch-Out!!, Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels, Super Mario Bros. ‘NES Remix 2’ is essentially the same concept but with a much better selection of titles. One of the best surprises late last year was Nintendo’s ‘NES Remix,’ which offered up a refreshing way to play classic NES games on the Wii U.
